Happy National Pie Day!
It’s that time of year again — my favorite minor holiday — yes, you guessed it, NATIONAL PIE DAY!
No, not THAT kind of pi, silly — THIS kind of pie:
Next to homemade bread, pie is my favorite thing to bake. I like just about any kind, too–apple pie, strawberry rhubarb pie, coconut cream pie–you name it, I’ll be sitting at the table, fork in hand, ready for my slice.
I love pie so much that I named two of my books after it:
Here’s a link to a blog post I wrote last year about this wonderful holiday, and my mother. Enjoy! I’m off to bake a pie (marionberry this year, in case you’re wondering)…

I love pie!!!!!!!
My favorite kind is pumpkin with dark chocolate line around the crust!
oooh pie i want some warm apple pie now
YAY for national pie day
There are so many different kinds of pie what’s your favorite?
Now I need to get my mom and make some pie today! Yum
Hmm….chocolate pie anyone?
What’s marionberry pie? I’ve never heard of it! Time to bake some banana cream pie and our famous chocolate meringue pie!
Marionberries are a kind of blackberry that were “invented” here in Oregon — they’re huge and sweet and juicy. Yum!
That sounds sooo good! Blackberry pie and vanilla ice cream almost measures up to chocolate in my book!
*GASP* In fact, I think they do!
sond yummy
and i didn’t know about national pie day till today cant watt till next year i love pies
I love chocolate pie but I don’t think I will eat it in a while after watching “The Help”!
LOL!!!
Ha! Ewww…
He-he!!!!
I know, right.
grosssssssssssssssss
Too bad our local bakery isn’t open…we’d totally go get a pie!
yayayayayayay PIE!!!!!!!!!!
This makes me want to have some of Gigi’s or Mrs. Sloane’s… Mmmm…
ya me to
I love both! (;
EMMA! My favorite MDBC character!(:
My mom makes an amazing apple pie. It’s been in my family since my past three grandparents.
What’s your favorite pie to eat, Heather? I love pumpkin pie even if it’s only “eat” eaten on Thanksgiving.
I have MANY favorites — coconut cream, strawberry rhubarb, apple, marionberry…and yes, pumpkin pie, too!
i love them all too
Pie&perfect holiday!
I love pie too! My favourite kind is cherry!
I am sure most anyone from great authors like Jane Austen to Maud Hart Love lace to Louisa May Alcott could not even resist the temptation of pie.
I suspect you are right, Tiara!
Oh well you know that National Pi Day (Pi the math term, like 3.14) is March 14th. Get it? 3-14 haha
Hilarious! And perfect.
Did u know that we will have a SUPER Pi Day in our lifetime? In 2015, the date will be 3-14-15 (3.1415)! Can’t wait! I’m gonna have to have a party . . . I’m a total nerd!
I LOVE THIS! Will mark my calendar. I am a fellow nerd.
3.14159265! I <3 math!!!
ya its my fav. subject
Wow I never thought about that! I’m going to have a party and eat lots of pie
love pumpkin pie!!!! and grasshopper pie! also apple!
Grasshopper pie? Is there real grasshoppers?
I have never had grasshopper pie. Is there grasshoppers in it?
What’s grasshopper pie???
grasshopper pie is like mint with marshmellows and whipped cream with an oreo crust! it called grasshopper cause it is green! although one year my grandma put grasshoppers on it! yuck!!!
Minus the grasshoppers it sounds amazing!
yumm but no grasshoppers
that sounds awesome!! but not with actual grasshoppers:)
Okay that sounds really good!
Why would your grandmother put actual grasshoppers in it?! That just makes it sound even more disgusting!
just as a joke!
we took them off after!
Yum! Absolutley love marshmallow!
I love strawberry pie!
I love national pie day (and pi day!)!
My favorite is pecan pie it is delicious!
I love pie!! Apple is my favorite!!!
Hey Ms. Frederick, when will get to see a preview of Wish You Were Eyre?
PS.I love you’re writing. It’s so detailed. I can’t believe you can write from those different views like that!!! I reccommended you’re books to all my friends!!!
I love pie!! my dad makes the best apple crumb pie! yum!!
Really? I LOVE apple crumb pie!
Me too! Especially Caramel Apple Crumb pie!
I love pie!!! Apple is my favorite!!! Hey Heather, when will we see a sneak peek on Wish You Were Eyre?
By the way, I recommended your books to all my friends.
PS> Can you give us some hints on what’s going to happen in Wish you Were Eyre???
Sneak peek coming late spring/early summer! Lots of fun things coming in the book — including a trip to Paris! Wheeeeeee…
Can’t wait to see if Cassidy chooses Tristan or Zach. Hope it’s Tristan!!!! Jess and Darcy better stick together too!!!
Nooooooooo way! A long-distance relationship could end up a disaster! They don’t end up very well in most movies and books, plus, the relationship would be too complicated. And if it doesn’t work out, she will be miserable for weeks! She and Zach would be such a better couple (in my opinion
) They would be so cute together
But I toatly respect your opinion, of course.
I really am split on this issue . . . Trassidy or Zassidy? Awww, they even have their own famous couple name!
So does Wish You Were Eyre take place in the second half of Sophomore year? You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to give anything away.
YES!
Happy Pie day but i don’t like pie
I love love love love (100,000,000 love’s lateter) pie! I don’t get it often though
I love french silk and apple piee
Hey Heather, what character in MDBC are you most like? I’m a mixture of all of them!!!
At your age, a blend of Emma (obvious reasons) and Jess (because I love animals, and used to be super shy). Now, as a mom, hopefully more like Mrs. Hawthorne than Mrs. Chadwick! In the future, I aspire to be Gigi….
Pie is great, because there are so many different varieties of it. And also, although homemade pies are ALWAYS the best, the store bought ones aren’t always that bad, whereas with cake, the store bought cake is so often dry and crumbly with that too-sweet icing. I have a question about Home For The Holidays, and since I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t read it, even though this is the tiniest thing and not important at all, please don’t read further if you haven’t read Home for the Holidays. What does Emma think of the onion sandwiches Mrs. Sloane-Kinkaid serves? I don’t remember it saying in the book, so I was just curious.
It didn’t say in the book, did it? What do you think, everyone — would Emma be a fan of onion sandwiches?
I checked my copy of the book, and Emma’s thoughts of them are not given, although beforehand, she says “I hope someone brought a killer dessert”, so I’m guessing she was thinking they wouldn’t be tasty, LOL.
I think Emma might have liked them. She would have tried them, at least, since they eat them in the Betsy-Tacy books.
Anybody love, loooove, LOVE Eggnog pie? The BEST!!!
Eggnog pie? I must try it!
Yes!!!!! YOU MUST!!!!!
What is eegnog pie?
LOVE eggnog!!! Must… try… it!
Actually, Pi day is March 14.
I dont think she means the math kind of pie…
At a middle school I know on pi day,March 14, (LOL 3-14!) they get to eat REAL PIE! How lucky are they?
LOL I did that in sixth grade . . . we had everybody bring in a different kind of pie. There was soooo much left over!!!
I made lemon bars today. Does that count?
yummy!
Awh, I missed it! I missed a perfectly good day to have pie. But Happy Pie Day!
I hope that wish you were eyre is going to have a bunch of romance in its pages Heather.
There will definitely be romance! Spring in Paris, right?
ahhhh, amour. (love right?, maybe I don’t know)
Yes. And “amor” is also spamish for love!
Hey Heather, you know what would be really funny? You should include National Pie Day in Wish You Were Eyre!! Also, you should totally put Valentines Day in. One more thing, have Jess get a new chicken and name it Taylor Swift. (my fav musician!!!)
I hate chickens. Sorry, sad, but quite true.
HAHA! Jess should SO get a chicken named Taylor Swift…
She rocks, and maybe should do a duet or something with the other chickens Mrs. Delaney has
LOL that would be funny if the pie shop had a National Pie Day sale or party or something!
Hmm. Might have to add that, too…
quite random in this conversation….
Ha! Exatly something my friend would say!
How do you get such good ideas from just thinking up things? I try to do that but I can’t! I need a lot of advice here. Please help!
Haha! i carved the pi sign out on a pumpkin for my school and won most creative!
FABULOUS!
Cool!
thanks:)
Don’t love pie but love π=3.14 Yes get Jess a chicken I’ll send her one.
Y-U-M-! PIE!
I had the best pie this week. It was blackberry.
It was warm and the crust was nice and crisp.
and I also added a scoop of vanilla ice cream! It was very tasty
haha
I LOVE coconut pudding pie. I make the pudding, then pour it into a pie crust.
Heather, is just Megan going to Paris with Gigi? Or are the other girls going too?
Just Megan!
Almost forgot! Heather, do you know who’s going to be on the front cover of Widh you Were Eyre?
Suggestions:
1.All of the girls, Megan, Emma, Jess, Becca, and Cassidy.
2.Have someone new join the club, like Ashley or Savannah
Mrs. Frederick doesn’t know that yet
You’ll see when the book comes out!
mmmmmmm i love pie too!!!! i never knew there was a national pie day…
Hmmm.It would be interesting if there would be a little jealousy from Darcy.Like if Zach started paying a little more attention to Jess.Lol.
I think you need to write a book, Talullah!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Jess needs to stay with Darcy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
heather,
i got my sister the 1st mdbc book for christmas and she is hooked!!!!!!!! we love your books sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much!
Yay!
Woohoo! Lemon meringue pie is my favorite!
I just had my grandma’s homemade cherry pie for dessert! Yum! Every time we have dress like your favorite book character day at my school, I dress up like Jess Delaney and braid my hair and put on a “barn” jacket! I have read every book they read in the books, and it is fun to see the way the real book relates with the lives of the girls!
my catchphrase is i like pie
I like pie too
its PANCAKE DAY …………………………well in america not hear its wednasday hear but i forgot so since it is still PANCAKE DAY in america it still counts ……….i think
Now you have to tell us about pancake day. Don’t think we have that here?
You might but if you don’t we still celebrated it when we lived there but it’s also called shrove Tuesday but I call it pancake day because we get to eat pancakes . But one time my mum put salt on mine and it tasted horrible .
Oh and also I got the 1st and 2nd books for a moving present …………… So if I didn’t move I wouldn’t have read them that would have been bad because I LOVE them.

Youn MUST read the other books, jessica. Especially Pies and Predjudice!!! Best book ever! I couldn’t help wondering do you live in England? I’ve always wanted to visit there!

That’s a good way to look at it, Jessica. Oh and National Pi Day will be on the 14th! Yay!
Actually, we just had National Pancake Day a week or so ago. IHOP was giving away pancakes! But I think that teirs taste discusting, though…..
Ya IHOPS pancakes are gross
There should be a National Mother-Daughter Book Club Day! I know a certain author would certaintly LOVE it!
That would be awesome ! and if this is a diffrent picture than normal its because im using my mums computer!
Nope it’s the same! weird, huh?
National Pi Day was yesterday! Iwas busy yesterday and the thought slipped out of my mind. But anyway, Happy (belated) National Pi Day!!! Are there any schools out there that celabrate National Pi Day? My youth group did and we ate pie! (although I objected to it…
)
