Just for fun
This just in from one of you — a mother-daughter book club fan who lives in England, and who took it upon herself to do a little tinkering with a tote bag she picked up at a Jane Austen gift shop! Don’t you love it?

I totally agree! Thats so awesome! Wish I thought of it! She (or he(:) gets my thumbs up!
I wish I could have that shirt. I kinda have a secret crush on Darcy. I know it’s kinda wierd to have a crush on a book character. It reminds me of the key chain Jess bought in “Pies & Predjadice”. Jess would so where it, so would I.
So true! I bought the whole series. On my kindle fire and its my 2nd reading them all
Yeah I have a secret crush on him too coincadance that it reminded me of the key chain to I live that shirt I want it!!!!!!!!!! I am sort of uber obsessed wif Darcy he he

Patience, patience — coming in a bit!

That is so funny. I think that is definitely something that Jess would wear.
When is you new book coming out Heather?
I have two new books coming out in 2012, Rose — ONCE UPON A TOAD in April, and WISH YOU WERE EYRE in September. There will be sneak peeks of both books here on my website a couple of months before publication dates.

SO MANY QUESTIONS!
anyways yeah. got the book in my stocking @ christmas this year.. i like freaked out!
how many books of these do u think u will right? i cant get enough of them!
I know me to! Im like there biggest fan!
It reminds me of the tote bag I got for xmas with a Louisa May Alcott quote on it. “She has read too many books and it has addled her brain.”
LOVE that quote!
I have a good Louisa May Alcott quote too!—
“I want to do something splendid, something heroic or
wonderful that won’t be forgotten when i’m dead…
I think I shall write books.”
I found it on the back of a book i’m reading, called “the Inheritance” ( by Louisa MayAlcott) it’s a good one!
Fabulous!
I also have a quote from the first book “I am not afraid of storms for I am learning how to sail my ship”
Love it! <3
Heather what are the birthdays of the girls in MDBC?
Good question — I never really mapped it out, believe it or not, and actually had to go back and research it for WISH YOU WERE EYRE, as there are a couple of birthday parties in the works. Here’s what I’ve come up with: Emma (June); Jess (late December/early January); Megan (end of January); Cassidy (March); Becca (April). If anybody comes up with something different, let me know. Lame, right, the author not knowing for sure… LOL!
What is Jess’s middle name?
Hmm. I don’t as I’ve established that yet. Believe it or not, it’s hard to keep five (and now almost six) books in my head! Any sharp-eyed readers know the answer to this?
I don’t think you mentioned it in any of the books
You should in the 7th (if there possibly is one coming…)
Nope, we only know the other four girls’. You should reveal it in some way in book six, Heather!
Just for those wondering, the other four girls’ middle names are…
Emma Jane
Rebecca Louise
Cassidy Ann(e) (Can’t remember which.)
Megan Rose (This is totally my favorite first/middle name combo of the daughters!)
Cassidy’s middle name is spelled Ann. I found it in Dear Pen Pal-page 42
if jess’s birthday is like that, then when she broke her leg, she didn’t mention anything about it ruining her birthday.
just wonderingggg, im a bit of a stickler haha
In much ado about anne when her parents told her about having to sell the farm. SHE said “it has been the worst birthday and christmas ever”
Ha! Sharp eyes.
I think Jess’s birthday should be in February because it is the love month (Valentine’s Day) which is so romantic!!!!!
To be specific make that February 11 cuz that is my birthday!
I always figured Megan’s was early December, based on her winter chapter in Dear Pen Pal, but I could be wrong. And since Emma’s is sometimes the last day of school, then June is probably correct.
Oh, and Jess’s birthday should be during Christmas break, because in Much Ado About Anne, she’s spending her birthday with Uncle Hans and Aunt Bridget.
Megan’s is definitely January, and Jess’s I may have fudged on a bit… It happens!
megan’s birthday should be on January 5th because some awesome person (*ahm*) is born on that day
yes! Heather, Cassidy should be march 22! My birthday! Lol
I think cassidy should be early april like the 4th . Thats my birthday !
Why not July 4th?;) Love love love your books, Mrs. Fredrick!
Aw, man! I meant the 29th! :S
My daughter and I have shared in reading the
Mother-daughter bookclub series this past few months. Due to my schedule, I think she actually finished each one before we both sat down together and picked up where we had left off! Lol! She was always telling me to sit down and finish reading them. She has just loved the series. We just finished “Home for the Holidays”.
Looking forward to the next one!
Thanks, Kim — delighted that you’re both enjoying them!
Heather, I have a question… when Jess is talking/thinking about her goats she says that they are her 4-H projects. Were you in 4-H?
No — I didn’t know about it when I was growing up. Too bad, as I would have LOVED to do something like that. How about you?
i’m in it…Horticulture, Floticulture, cattle showmanship and fitiness-running. I was just curoius-a lot of people who didn’t do it as kids don’t know what it is.
Floticulture? Is that like water sports or something?
woops…another typo floracurlture. it’s like with flowers and stuff. Sorry-my bad
Haha, I kinda like “flotaculture.” But “flora” makes more sense, I suppose…
I have been wanting to do it for a long time, but never seem to have the time! Have a cousin that does it, though. She raised a goat, too!
What is 4 H
Anybody want to enlighten her? Do we have any 4-H-ers here?
I’t my birthday today and my sisters got me a copy of Sense and Senseabity. I haven’t start it yet but I am EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
happy birthday jockgirl
thanks you guys!!!!
actuallylate birethday, but still, happy b-day!
Four thumbs up! Haha
happy late-ish birthday jockgirl!
Omg! That is pretty sweet! Love it! Lol:)
So on your book covers, they are like the characters right?
Dear Pen Pal- Megan
Much Ado About Anne- Cassidy
Those I know for sure… and if I am right, that you based the cover to look like the characters..
who are the rest?
Mother Daughter Book Club is Jess. Pies and Prejudice is Emma. Home for the Holidays is Becca.
Ummm . . . sorry, abbey, but Mother Daughter Book Club and Pies and Prejudice are the same person, with and without glasses. And I always thought that Much Ado About Anne was Becca and Home for the Holidays was Jess, but I guess it’s who each individual reader sees. Cool that we can all develop a different picture of the same five girls, isn’t it?
Here’s who they’re “officially” supposed to be – but I love what you said about all of us developing our own pictures of the girls! That’s what reading is all about — the power of the IMAGINATION! Anyway:
MDBC = Jess
Much Ado = Cassidy
Dear Pen Pal = Megan
P&P = Emma
Holidays = Becca
As for WISH YOU WERE EYRE? Stay tuned…
I was right! Its ok Anna. I know im blonde too!:)
Hey, it’s NOT the same girl. Whoops. *blushes* As I always say, “forgive me; I’m blonde!”
Haha, Anna!
I have those moments, too
I know that , too, Lily E. Not Wong;). Good thinking!
I know the rest of them . . . here they are!
The Mother-Daughter Book Club- Jess
Pies and Prejudice- Emma
Home for the Holidays- Becca
Also, the girl on the front of each book tells the last chapter of the book. (e.g. Dear Pen Pal ends with Megan.)
I wish the Mother-Daughter Book Club series would never end!
i love mother daughter book club!!
My favorie book from mother daughter book club is the second one. Heather Vogel Frederick should make a mother daughter book club about everybody going to New York to help Megan sew and figure out new fasshion design. And maybe wear the fashion designs.Or be a model! I think instead of selling pastries in pies and pre judice one of the books, they should be sewingf clothes with a sewing machine!
how do u draw happy faces?
You type : and then this ) to make this without the space in the middle. : )
You should end up with this:
thanks
Chadwicks- why are they in the mother daughter book club?
Sloanes-i especially love how sporty cassidy is
Hawthornes- i love the stewart and emma thing, but for some reason, I dont like Emma’s mom shes too seerious and kind of annoying and why wont darcy just ask Jess out?
Dealenys- i love how they own so many animals and how she gets up early and how pretty she is on the first book cover
Wongs- megan should just do her sewing thing because a lot of other girls are cooler and prettier than her so why does simon berkley like her?
Quick answers as I need to get back to writing here, so you all will have another book to read next September! Chadwicks are in the story for DRAMA, pure and simple. Other questions, stick with the books and all will be revealed. (For instance, Darcy DOES ask Jess out!) And Megan is a multi-talented young lady who can hold her own with the coolest and prettiest girls. She’s also funny, if a bit quiet. Why wouldn’t Simon like her?!
DarcyLover have you not read home for the holidays or enen pies and prejudice! They are dating! They are the custes couple in the book! How could you miss that! You obviously have never been to this blog! Darcy is litteraly all we talk about. You obviously havent read 4and 5!
I dont understand what is wrong with Megan! She is a great beautiful girl and simon is a sweet boy and the only reason why he broke up with her is that he didnt have to worry about long distance! But youve obviously havent reas home for the holidays! Megan has friends that love her and a boyfriend who is just sweet but i dont think you should say anything mean about megan!
I also think that the chadwicks have a big part in all the books and the book club wouldnt be the same without them.
Haha!! Yeah I completely agree with u!
IKR!!!!!!
Heather Vogel Frederick i just found this website today and i love your books and im almost done with pies and prejudice, and i was thinking that maybe you should make a book of summer break and stewaart inviting emma on vacation or something!
i really love your books!
Do you still live on the east coast?
I don’t — I live in Portland, Oregon now!
Heather what would you like me to call you
heather?
Vogel?
heather vogel?
frederick?
vogel frederick?
heathervogelfrederick?
heather vogel frederick?
i just don’t want to talk to a famous person, and using their name in a way they don’t like
How about Mrs. Frederick? Or, as my mother used to say, “you can call me anything, just don’t call me late for dinner.”
heather, in your opinion is anne of green gables a good book?
what’s it about?
LOVE LOVE LOVE Anne of Green Gables! Set on Prince Edward Island, in Canada, it’s the story of an orphan girl who comes to live with an older woman and her brother — they sent off for a boy, and she came instead. I don’t want to give any more away. Read it! (Anybody else, feel free to chime in with some of your favorite bits if you’d like.)
read, read, read it! It’s AWESOME!!!!! I love anne’s imaigination!!!!
Omg! Luv that whole series!!!
I’ve been to the house where green gables was set!! so pretty!
It’s an awesome book, it’s romantic and gives you a warm feeling! Read it!
talk to ya tomorrow everybody!
Mrs.Frederick, you are my idol
Once i went to Organ1
they have a lot of trees1!
Mrs. Frederick, Im going to tell my friend who reads your books too about this wesite so she can talk to you too!
Luv Darcy too
I loved Home for the Holidays! I was reading the comments and I ran into a comment that made me wonder something. Who are on all of the Mother Daughter Book Club Covers? I’m pretty sure that Emma’s on Pies and Prejudice, and Cassidy on Much Ado About Ann, but I don’t know about the other books! Could someone tell me?
The MDBC is Jess
Much ado about Anne is Cassidy
Dear pen pal is Megan
Pies and prejudice is Emma
And home for the holidays is becca
Mother Daughter Book Cub is Jess. Much Ado About Anne is Cassidy. Dear Pen Pal is Megan. Pies And Prejudice is Emma and Home For The Holidays is Becca.
Am I the only one who realizes that Mother Daughter Book Club and Pies & Prejudice have the same girl on the front, without and without glasses???
Hmm. I don’t think so, Anna, simply because the models’ pictures were taken four years apart, and the young lady (Jess) on the cover of MDBC would look a lot older by the time P&P (Emma) came along.
Well, I just looked again. Guess what? They are two totally different girls. Whoops. There’s my stupid moment of the day! I guess I was just so excited to jump in that I took a quick glance and started reading! Sorry to everyone I was all “Becca-ish” to. *blushes*
LOL – love “Becca-ish,” Anna!
The thing is is that Jess has blond hair and on MDBC she has blonde hair and I dont remember Jess ever having glasses and I pretty much know like everything about this series and on P&P Emma has brown hair and glasses. So i dont recall having one girl on two different covers! I was really confused about Home For The Holidays because Becca and Jess both have blonde hair.
Yeah. I was thinking:
Jess is a BLONDIE! (No offense to all you blondes out there. I love blonde hair. But I look more like Megan.) Sure, they could’ve dyed her hair but Jess has BLUE EYES (does she on the cover, though?) and Emma=BROWN hair+eyes. Though, Anna, I can kind of see how you thought that. What was that quote? something about looking at all our nieghbors in turn and laughing (pies & prejudice, chapter when Emma is in Concord for spring break)can someone please tell me what that quote was?
I figured that Home for the Holidays is Beca but then I gother confused with Jess! Thanks
“got her” ugggg…
Jess+Emma+Cassidy+Megan(Maybe + Becca)=TOATAL GENIUS!:
“For what do we live, but to make sport of our neighbors, and laugh at them in our turn?” I found it on janeaustenquotes.com
My favorite Austen quote ever!
Jane Austen quote of the day
(Absolutley LOVE janeaustenquotes.com!!!
Awesome site!!!) :
“May we now, and on each return of night, consider how this past day has been spent by us, what have been our provailing thoughts, words, and actions during it.”
I was also wondering when a mom is going to be on one of the covers? I had an idea for the cover for the last book. All of the daughters and moms together with there faces showing! I am really wondering what their faces looked like! But, my idea is just an idea!
Fun! I don’t know what the art department has up their sleeve, but I know they’re considering everything!
I agree- the last book should feature the moms on the cover.
yay! thats so cool!
right on!
Do you think the 6th book cover will feature one of the moms?
I don’t think so, but really, at this point it’s still a mystery to me, too. I’m eager to see what the art department at Simon & Schuster comes up with!
What about one of the boys? Hint hint wink wink nudge nudge shove shove push push cough cough DARCY HAWTHORN !!!!
Are you making more mother daughter book club books?
I think they are the beat books I have ever read.
I mean they are the best. I have never read any other book like them.
Okay how do you make a frozen banana Heather! You must tell me!
Um, were we talking about frozen bananas? Did I miss something?
I think maybe HannaH read Home for the Holidays and Cassidy must have inspired her with frozen bananas!
You peel a banana, put it on a skewer (or some kind of stick) dip it in melted chocolate, roll it in nuts and set on wax paper in the freezer
Exactly! Thanks for sharing the recipe.
Your so welcome!
are you making any other mother daughter book club books?
#6 is in the works – I’m taking a brief break from writing it and answering blog comments!
Just got daddy-long-legs from my library’s inter-library loan! Finally! Can’t wait to start it!!!! Anybody recomend a certain way to view it?
I would suggest opening the cover and DIVING IN! You’ll love it!
ok, another question heather. What are your historical fiction books about? I read the summery on the website and I still don’t have very good idea what they are about.
I think i might google it.
The Patience Goodspeed books are set in the 1830s aboard a Nantucket whaling ship. Patience, the main character, will remind you of a cross between Cassidy and Jess. If anybody else has read them, feel free to chime in (without too many spoilers, please)…
Heather- We started a book club at our school! There is a group of five of us, *For right now* not counting our fantastic librarian who helped me with the idea. Our first book is going to be Mother-Daughter Book Club, then we are going to read Little Women…
I am so excited! Thanks for inspiring me! It’s a fun way to get everyone to read
How fun! If anyone else is in a book club, why don’t you jump in with suggestions for Leshka of fun things to do at a meeting (besides Skype with the author, ahem).
I’m in a book club with some of my friends.. We like to come up with fun crafts, games, scavenger hunts, etc. related to the book before discussing. Have fun with your club, Leshka!
I wish I were in a book club. These books make it seem so much fun!
I totally agree with that bag. I <3 Darcy Hawthorne too!!!!!!!
<3<3
ohmygosh, me too~ I am SO jealous of Jess! <3
I am literallybin love with him but I know I would never have a chance with him so im routing for Darcy anx Jess to stay a couplefor a very long time!
I love when Anne falls off the ridge poll, even though that would hurt! It is so funny!
Heather, I was reading the first MDBC and on page 68 at the top of the page I think that there is a typo, I think that it has an extra be in it. What do you think?
You’re right – a few typos slipped through. Hopefully corrected in later printings.
Mrs. Frederick? I’ve had this question: in D.P.P. Jess names Sundance’s baby Sunbeam. But in either HftH or P&P it got changed to Cedar. Is Cedar a different goat or did you change Sunbeam’s name kind of by accident?
Uh-oh, I might have goofed. Don’t have time to double-check right now. If I did, just think of her as Cedar “Sunbeam” Delaney ha ha.
I think Sundance had a baby, didn’t she?
I meant Sunbeam! ugggg…
Heather what’s your favorite MDBC book? Mine is 5.
I don’t really have a favorite — I had fun writing them all!
Toatally agree!
I absolutly LOVE it!!! I need to get me one of them!!!
go mother daughter book club!
As long as the book is good I don’t care about typos!
Sorry, that “good” should be a great!
wat was the most fun book you have written?
They’ve all been fun, but maybe SPY MICE: GOLDWHISKERS or PIES & PREJUDICE because I got to travel to England both times for research! And I went to England on a cruise ship for P&P — also research. Cool, huh?
If I would have known, I would have asked you to take me with you!
So, a lot of people have been writing fanfictions about the MDBC lately, and they usually involve the girls in the future when they are all married and all of their daughters get together in another book club.
Well, I was thinking about writing one, and I was like, “Wait? Who would Cassidy end up marrying and having a daughter with?” Neither Zach nor Tristan felt right, and neither did Sam Parker (though I contemplated him), so I was thinking when it hit me!
Cassidy is the kind of person who would be so busy that she wouldn’t marry, and might end up adopting one day, as she loves kids so much. What do you guys think? Is that true to character?
Who is Sam Parker?
Winky Parker’s brother — in “Dear Pen Pal.”
hearther, is the eyre book part of the mother daughter book club series?
I think the mother daughter book club is awesome! Wher so you come up with this stuff? Keep up the good work! What’s the next mother daughter book club book?
I love this bag!!!! People would totally stare at me though, if I wore it.
Wow! Jess would totally ♥ it, and so do I!
heather, do you have any pets?
Two Shelties, just like the Delaneys. If you hunt around on my blog under “older posts,” you’ll find pictures of them.
i think jess and darcy make a very cute couple
Who is your favorite MDBC couple Heather?
Stanley Kinkaid and Clementine.
they are so cute together!
Hey! I am such a big fan. I love the mother daughter book club series and I have read them over five times this year. I now want to move to Concord! I was wondering if you are writing any more books to the Mother Daughter book club series? If you are not, I am so disapointed! They are the best books I have ever read. You really have talent. I hope you reply, Lily
you have very cute dogs.
i think it is great that Heather is writing wonderful books, and she is able to talk to us online
-thank you heather!
You’re welcome!
What’s the next mother daughter book club?
Wish You Were Eyre- the book club is reading Jane Eyre
Comming out in September! Can’t wait!!!
The new book is gona be awesome.
me niether. the next book will be out of this world!
I agree
totally fun.:)
love the bag!
me too !!!
i can sew just like Megan.
I even have my own little buisness with my friends!
EXCELLENT! I can’t even sew buttons on my clothes.
I admire your talent!
Wish I was Jess, I totally have a crush on Darcy! (I know its weird, but I do)!
thank you!
Right noe I am making pillows and American Girl doll wear for my friends!
i mean now I am making pillows and American girl doll wear for my friends’ sisters!!!!!!!!!
I love that pic! I have a secret crush on Darcy.
Not so secret anymore.
haha
yup
So cool! I love that! I have a book crush on Darcy =o)
By da way, Heather, in pies&prejudice it says Emma moves to a pretty little village on the outskirts of Bath, I was totally chuffed (english word, sorry if you don’t know what it means…) because I live in a pretty little village about 5 miles from Bath! I was so happy when I read it.
I’m chuffed to hear that you were chuffed (a favorite expression of mine).
I think I speak for everyone when I say we are all green with envy. Bath and its environs (the towns and villages surrounding it) are one of the prettiest places I’ve ever been!
Hi Heather!
I’m chuffed you love the word chuffed-so do I! (But my favourite word is pernickety…)
=o) Oh, you gave me and new word just then; environs. Cool word.
I agree, Bath is beautiful. I feel so lucky I live near there! The second most beautiful place I’ve been to is Yosemite.(California) I went there in 2008 and loved it! Have you been there? I’ve been to America once. I went to SanFrancisco and LA!
I LOVE your books and I am desperate to buy pies&prejudice and the ones after that. I find it so annoying that the only place I can buy your awesome books is online. I guess living in England means I can’t buy some American books in stores… shame
. Ha. I’ll live with it.
Oops, just realised how long this post is. Better go… =o)
Abi xxx
Follower of awesome authors!
UK rocks. So does USA. And Switzerland! =o)
Yosemite is on my list. I lived in San Francisco for three years and NEVER VISITED! Gak! Gotta get there one of these days.
That must of been so annoying, not getting to visit Yosemite. It was a really boring coach journey though (4 hours each way
)!
Best wishes, Abbi
p.s I am desperate you get p&p now!
