Author Presentations

Talking about books, about reading, and about the craft of writing is hands-down my favorite part of being a writer (besides actually writing, of course!).  I have visited with students all over the country in settings ranging from inner-city classrooms to a rural one-room schoolhouse.  My goal is to inspire a future generation of writers through lively, anecdotal sessions that help shed light on the process of researching, writing, and editing books.  My presentations include:

OTHER PROGRAMS

I offer a variety of talks and workshops for almost all age groups, and am always happy to discuss tailoring one of them to the individual needs of your school or organization.

In addition to being an author, I am also a former staff reporter and children's book review editor for The Christian Science Monitor, and my byline has appeared in such newspapers and magazines as The New York Times, Family Life, Child, and Publishers Weekly,  where I was a contributing editor for many years.  Drawing on nearly 20 years of experience as a journalist, all of my programs offer a broad perspective on the writing life, as well as on the particular joys of writing fiction.

I am available to speak to library groups, conferences, mother-daughter book groups, and more.  Please contact me directly if you would like to discuss one of these possibilities further.
