You know you’re in Texas when…

… the hotel you’re staying at leaves an adorable little ceramic cowboy boot by your bed, with a note attached telling you to place it on the covers if you want to “preserve and protect our natural resources” by not changing the linens each day.

This boot is so going home with me. Β I love Houston!

  1. That is such a cute boot! Any chance you’ll be out to your home state. Me and my friend have decided that your home state is where you were born. You were born in MA right? I was born in Boston. That makes my home state MA! A lot of your fans are out in the northeast. You should do a book signing in Concord. MA not NH. I’ve never been before. The way you describe it in your books, it sounds like a great place to live or visit.

    • Actually, I was born in New Hampshire! But I spent a lot of years in Massachusetts. Fingers crossed I do a book signing in Concord Mass next year…

  2. that is cool heather. but could you come to washington dc. and plus i saw the jane eyere movie and it was kind of weird and daRK

  3. wow! that really is texas!!! the boot is cute!!!!
do you know what the cover will look like for the nexted book???

  4. The boot is so cute. I feel a bit duped now because every time I’ve been to a hotel in Texas they never left a cowboy boot by my bed. πŸ™
Excited to see you in Houston! πŸ™‚

  5. Wow. That boot is so cute! Lightbulb moment! There should besomething like that in Paris for Megan! Except maybe one of those little berets? πŸ™‚

  6. Hi Heather! OMG my friend just got me Home For the Holidays for my birthday and it’s sooooooo good!!!!! I love the cover!

  7. I LOVE THAT! That boot is so cute. What a clever way to get their guests attention. πŸ™‚ Those are the little things that make you smile when you are traveling. πŸ™‚

    • Yes! I’m just waiting for my box of author copies to arrive, so I have a couple to give away. πŸ™‚

  8. Heather,
I know this is unrelated to your above post, but do you know of a store in MN that carries the newest book??? I went to a couple stores a couple weeks ago and neither of them had it! πŸ™

    • Hi Amanda — well there’s good news, and sort of bad news, but then good news again. The good news is that the first printing of the book sold out! The sort of bad news is also that the first printing sold out, which means that my publisher has gone back to press for another printing, which might take a little bit. The good news is that there should be plenty more coming soon, and in plenty of time for the holidays.

What I would suggest would be to call a couple of bookstores (check Red Balloon in St. Paul, they’re fabulous) and see if they have it. Some bookstores have it in their back storage room, waiting to be put out on holiday displays. If they don’t have it, they should be able to order it for you. Ask them how long it will take. Hope it’s not more than a week or two!

  9. Is Home for the Holidays a NookBook? BTW Nook books are for the Barnes and Noble Nook, if you didn’t know.

  10. This is a little off topic, but I saw the play Daddy Long Legs today and it was really good! The girls read it in one book and now I can relate a little more to the book.

The play only had 1 set and 2 actors (actress & actor) and it was very creative and good!!!

  11. heather,

i think that you should put megan looking at a historic document by the men’s bathroom at her hotel in paris. just an idea. maybe two french moms could come up to her and tell her her clothhes look good on their babies. you know bebe soliel. plus heather i read all the books but i don’t know what pda means

    • First of all, “PDA” means “public display of affection.” πŸ™‚ Love your ideas! Thank you!

  12. A little off topic here too. I have an idea for your next book. From Paris with Love. I’d tell you on your blog but I would not want random people to see it ’cause if you decide to put it into the book, then people who read it will be like,”I remember someone posted about having that idea.” because I want every book to be a surprise. I’ll send you an email about it though…………if thats all right with you………………is it?

  13. Wait! I just noticed that Chloe posted an idea. Ok. My idea is that Cassidy has a family reunion with Stanley’s parents and nieces. And so Cassidy’s stepfather’s niece(which can be named of whatever Heather chooses) turns out to be a lot like Emma(this is your choice,Heather, but I thought it would be most like Cassidy to want to bring a friend to a reunion filled with people she does not know) so Emma’s mom invites her to be in the club. Of course Cassidy doesn’t like the idea. And over the months that Cassidy’s cousin is in the book club, the cousin tries to steal Emma from Jess. Then, like at the end of the book, Emma sees the cousin being mean to Jess. So then Emma tries to tell her mom that the cousin is mean but Mrs. Hawthorne won’t listen. And then the cousin is the mean girl.

    A long yet good idea.

P.S I think Morgan is a great name for the cousin

  14. And I also have a question for you, Heather. Were any of the events in your series based on some of the events in your real-life childhood?

    • Yes, a number of them, including the sleigh ride (just me and a friend whose family had a sleigh, though), the Patriot’s Day battle reenactment (my dad used to wake my sisters and me up at 4 a.m. every Patriot’s Day to walk over to the Old North Bridge and watch it – then we’d go to the pancake breakfast afterward), moving to England (I did this in sixth grade with my family, and Ivy Cottage is EXACTLY like the house we lived in there). Loads of things…

  15. What!!!!!!!! I could walk to blue willow and my favorite author was there!!!!!!! How did I not know this! I am soooooo sad really. πŸ™

  16. I have a question. Do you recommend for me to make everyone have their own chapter. Well, Macy, Alexis, Mackenzie, and Eloise at least? I think I should but I want a REAL author’s opinion before I do something that messes my whole carrer of writing.

P.S I am still the other Emma(Cassidy Fan) but I’m on a different computer, now.

    -Emma(Cassidy Fan)

    • Emma (Cassidy) fan — I think you should do what YOU want to do! The whole point is for you to have fun writing, and if you’re doing something because someone else says you should, it could pull the plug on your fun, you know? Go with your heart. πŸ™‚

      • Ok I think I decided on what I want to do. I want to do something different from everyone else does so I want to do one book in the point of view of Alexis, one book in the point of view of Macy, one book in the point of view of Mackenzie, one book in the point of view of Eloise, and maybe I’ll even travel over to Georgia with Molly, and then Addison. (She’ll be talked about A LOT through the books)

        Thanks!
        Emma(Cassidy Fan)
