O Christmas tree…

We didn’t put up a Christmas tree this year.  We figured we’d just be asking for trouble, what with Billie, our frisky little year-old Sheltie, running around the house.  I scattered some ornaments and lights here and there to brighten things up, and tucked some evergreen boughs along the mantel to give us that lovely holiday scent, but I was still feeling a little sad on Christmas Eve.  I do love a tree.

Look what I woke up to!

Our amazing sons waited until we’d gone to bed, then collaborated on creating this AMAZING piece of art, all made entirely of books!  Imagine my delight when I went out into the family room on Christmas morning and found it waiting for me.

Best.  Present.  EVER!

    • They just grabbed things at random off our bookshelves, Natalie — chose them by size more than anything else!

        • I don’t have a single favorite — although I do dearly love PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. Like you, I find there are SO many wonderful ones out there!

          • I have read it, and loved it. I also loved the movie, which I thought was very faithful to the book, and really did it justice. Not many movies-from-books do that.

          • I REALLY want to see the movie. I guess a bunch of people also REALLY wanted to see it too ’cause when my sister asked about renting yesterday all EIGHT dvds were already rented! Very good sign. I can’t wait!

    • I’m so excited for your 6 MDBC book!!!!!! U should really consider writing the MDBC books until they like get married like the Betsy-tacy series!!!!

  1. WOW, that is just AWESOME!! I’M SO EXCITED HEATHER! HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS just arrived at my door! THANKS SO MUCH! SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE! IM SOOOOO EXCITED IM CANT STOP JUMPING UP AND DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND THE BOOKMARK, TOO! AND THE MESSAGE! sorry for the caps i cant control myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Wow! I wish MY christmas tree was so awsome ! Your sons rock! They should be pro holiday decoreters! I am going to force my parents to take as much books as possible ( we have all lot of books) and start stacking books like that! I’ll at least take my books and do that in my room!

  3. Oh my gosh!(: I would have loved to have that as my Christmas tree!
We almost didn’t put one up, either. we ended up putting one up, but we didn’t decorate it that much. Me and my Mom attempted to put some ribbon on it. That didn’t work well, and made it look like we were trying too hard, haha(-:
Our decorations were whatever we could find in the box with the tree, and homemade ones from my grandparents. Since we didn’t want to waste the ribbon, we cut them, probably a foot or two and kind on scrunched it up 3 times. We didn’t have enough ribbon, though. It wasn’t the prettiest tree, but it did. (?-:

  4. Wow! And I thought my construction paper tree was cool…:) I don’t think I could ever live without a Christmas tree! I just see that your sons inherited your creativity!

  5. Just wanted to let everyone on this blog know how much you brightened my day. = ) I had just finished Home for the Holidays (for like, the third time) and was “wicked” sad that I was out of MDBC to read. Having never been to this blog before, I Googled around until I found this site. After reading some posts, I looked through comments and saw the name Wish You Were Eyre. That was all I needed. I knew another MDBC book was coming and I literally started jumping up and down, ecstatic. Thanks to everybody who’s ever posted here (including Heather, obviously) for making my day!!!!!!! Anybody know when Wish You Were Eyre comes out? I can’t stand not knowing how the girls react when “certain people” go off to college (if you know what I mean . . . ) and what happens with all the Berkley boy drama!

    • Comes out in September 2012. And Heather said that there would be more of the Berkeley boys 🙂 I read Home for the Holidays 3 times already too! 😀

      • I set a goal to read Little Women, Anne of Green Gables, Daddy-Long-Legs, Jane Eyre, Betsy-Tacy, and possibly Pride and Prejudice (along with all of the MDBC books that go along with them) in order to tide me over until Wish You Were Eyre comes out in September! Wish me luck!!!

        • Wow! That will definitely tide you over until September!!!!!!

          What state do u liv in? R u 12 cuz I am but about 2 be 13?

        • Luuuucky! THose would even tide me over until May! Reading fast is a total curse. But I do indeed wish you luck! I think all those books are SUCH good reads!

          • I agree with you jockgirl. When I found out about HftH I was jumping up and down. But it only took me like 9 hours to finish it and I’m like, “What? It’s over already? Oh, come on!” It feels like I’m attached to these books!

      • i know i cant put her books down they are so good i bought the whole series on my kindle fire and cant stop resding them!!!

        • I bought the whole series on my color nook but I just need to buy book two and three! And the book are quite good. Its kinda hard to follow sometimes but it is quite but im not that far yet so I couldnt really tell you

        • Little Women is the only one I have tackled so far. It’s really good, but sometimes if I don’t quite understand a chapter I just read it again and then look up an explanation on Google. That makes it much more bearable!

  6. I would love to have a tree like that! Its so fun and easy to put all the Christmas decorations up but its kind of a pain taking them down!

  7. That’s so cool! Merry Christmas! They totally should make a movie for your books I would watch it 10000 times!!!!!!!

    • I actually think I am fine with the books… All the books I have read that were made into movies, the movies were nothing like the books (practically horrible) and I didn’t want to read the fantastic books again 🙁 🙁

      • TOwaTALLY!!!!!!!! I would date Darcy if he was real and lives in Sandy, Utah but saddly he is and does not!

      • Well if they did turn the books into movies they would have to be right on but I still think that would be awesome but they would have to have perfect actors to look just like the characters in the book. Especially Darcy. He needs to be really really cute!!!!!!!!!

        • I don’t think that they should make movies, just ’cause the movies would mess up the plots. I hate when that happens in movies.:(

          • I know right! Reading and writing is my passion. If only reading great books like MDBC was a job! That would be the life!:)

          • I KNOW! I LOVE reading and writing. I wish I could get a job just reading!!! Maybe I should be a book critic, that would sort of work:) I heard a quote once..
“Find something you love, and then figure out how to get paid for it” :):)

          • Did you girls all know that I was a book critic for many years? I earned a living reading! It was wonderful work, and wonderful preparation for becoming an author myself. 🙂

          • COOL! My mom is always telling me I need a “day job” if I want to be author and haven’t gotten anything published.

      • I don’t think it would be possible to make a movie about the MDBC series as good as the books themselves. But I would still watch the movies again and again. (: I hope they make them someday… 🙂

          • Does anyone else find it amusing that we’re practically fighting over guys that don’t even exist? 😉

          • I find it very amusing! Ok so I have my flaws with both of them! Tristian was really rude and then he becomes sweet right when they are going back to England. Zack on the other hand was polite all along. Well I guess not all along but at least a little polite. I just hated when he kissed Cassidy out of the blue. He obviously knew that she wasnt interested but Tritian had to go call her names and be mean. I dont do mean. I would choose either I guess. I feel like if Cassidy and Tristian would have to manage long distance and you know what happened to Megan and Simon unless they move back or something and I dont know if that happen. And they might have to deal with Annabelle and that would not be good. Anyways I think that it would be better if Zack and Cassidy go out because they wouldnt have to deal with you know long distance but if they go out then they will have to deal with Becca and Beccas well Becca. I dont know! I couldnt tell you! Im more of a Darcy kind girl and hes taken by Jess! She so lucky

          • Yeah, but there’s that thing with zach- kissing her when she isn’t interested. If that were me, I would have seriuos issues with that. Maybe Cassidy should just remain a spinster…like Jane Austin.

    • I know, Ellie, right? I’m was thinking, “How is there not a movie of this?” It wouldn’t compare to the book, though. ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING compares to the books.

  8. I just finished Jane Eyre!!! I LOVED it! Still, I have to ask, will there be any mention of Wuthering Heights, or any other Bronte novels? Surely Emma won’t be satisfied with just one book!:)

    • I don’t know . . . she did settle for just Pride and Prejudice and just Little Women. Plus, Jane Eyre is a pretty long book. It might take them the whole sixth book just to get through it!

      • Emma did NOT settle for just P&P, she read Jane Austen’s complete set of novels, and Jane Eyre is really good! I wouldn’t be surprise if Emma had it done within a month!!!

        • Well, yeah, you’re right. I was more referencing in book club, because Emma didn’t force the club to read all of Jane Austen’s books (poor Cassiday if she did!). But we already know Emma’s read everything, so it’s all good, right? 😉

  9. I kind of agree with leshka, because the movies would be sooo different! But it would be cool to see which actors play the role of the characters!

  10. I can not wait for Wish You Were Eyre! I have been waiting since like forever! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. That is the most ADORABLE thing I have ever seen!!!!!!!!!!! I sooooo wish that is what my tree was like!!!!!!!!! 🙂

  12. Okay that tree is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G-! You have some nice sons, Heather. That was a very creative idea. 🙂
