I returned home today from a quick trip to Boston (my wonderful nephew graduated from Hampshire College this past weekend — yay, Will!) to find this in my backyard:
Yes, folks, that is a robin’s nest. Β Guess we won’t be sweeping off the back patio anytime soon…

Aww how sweet!! Do you know how many there are??
So far all I can see is the mom.
Aww, how cute!! π
aww(: <3
How funny!!!!
Birds usually make nests in my family’s hanging plants, but this year we put them up late.
P.S. Please check your email!!!!! π
Jess would flip! A new animal to learn about!
So sweet! At my old house, we used to have a hummingbird nest in a hanging light on the patio. My dad would tape a mirror to a broom handle so that we take little peeks!
What a great idea!
oh that is really cool!! once my friend had a bird nest built like that on her patio. i wanted to say i JUST got out of school for the summer.
Wait your from pheonix? So am I (well kinda I live in the valley).
Yep, i am.
Cool
I just got out of school on the 24 too
OMG!! You were back in MA! Did you visit Concord? Oh, and did you get the e-mail with the new screensaver?
I was in Concord very briefly — and yes, got the screensaver! Will be posting it soon…
My mom found a robin’s nest in our back yard a while a go just as eggs! They hatched and the one day we saw them hop out of the nest and never came back.
Cool, my dad went to Harvard, is that near there?
Cute birds, I love robins! My grandma used to have a nest of baby robins but they grew up.
A few hours west of Cambridge, where Harvard is. But same state!
Cute! That is so cool!
Cool. I wish we had robins in our backyard.
I absolutely LOVE robins! Once, at our house, one built a nest on our roof, using fake grass from our Easter baskets! It was really funny, and it reminded me of in ‘Sarah, Plain and Tall’ when she says the birds will build nests of ‘red curls.’ I love that idea! SPRING IS WONDERFUL!!:)
Ha! Funny!
Have you had any little robins yet? I have a nest of swalows right outside my bedroom window. They like talking to each other at nite………..
Nope, just the mom so far.
so awesome!!!!all i have is squirels and bunnies!
I’d say you’re pretty well off with bunnies and squirls (so cute!)
SOOOOOOO COOOOOOL! I LOVE ROBINS!
That is so cool. I Always have baby birds at our house. Then we care for them.
Guess what I just found out. I went outside today, and there was I birds nest on the light on my back porch!!! I don’t think anything is in it yet, but I’m hoping there will be!!!
we’ve had kill deer in the emty lot next to us for the past 2 years, but none this year. The first year the eggs hatched on Mother’s day the next year they hatched on Father’s day. Cool, huh!!! π
Totally cool!
A bird built a nest near my bathroom window, so we could see the chick. I was so cute! I’m not sure what type of bird it was, though.
Okay, this is off topic, but does anyone know how to change the picture next to your name? Because mine is a gross color.
Change the email address. I have two emails so I tested out with my other one. If you only have one email then I guess you’ll have to stick with that one. π
Thanks, Zoe!”
When I was little (little as in, 5) on the side of our house there were a bunch of bushes and when I looked down from my bedroom window I could see the tops of them.
One year, A robin made it’s nest there and when I got up every morning, I would check on the eggs.
I was really sad when they all hatched and flew away but it was nice to have those there.
Fun! And yes, sad when they fly away, but a good thing, too. That’s what they need to do…
Jess would love this sweet surprise!!!!!
SO CUTE!!!!!!!
That is sooo cute! π Please keep us posted on the robins’ progress π
That is so cool!! We get robins every year in our tree, but a crow always flies by and snatches the babies! π (Make sure no crows are around Mrs. Frederick!)
That happened to one of the babies one year (these robins return every year), and now I’m very vigilant on the day that the babies “fledge,” or fly away. I sit out there with a chair, watching for crows! Don’t mess with Mama Frederick!
Haha good! π
(Congrats to Will) π
that’s adorable! how many eggs are there? are there any eggs?
Can’t tell yet…
That is so cool! Kind of topic, sorry, but do you know when we’ll get a excerp of WYWE??? Sorry I just had to ask!
Mmm, probably still a month or six weeks away…
OH MY GOSH! YAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!!!! But if you can post an excerpt in about a month then why is the actual book coming in out in like another 2 1/2 months?
Good question, Julia! We’re a little behind schedule… π
Oh that’s okay. Do you feel the book is coming along nicely? Is it your favorite of the series?
It is definitely coming along, Julia, but we’re behind schedule a bit. Patience, everyone!
YAY!! Congratulations to your nephew! My only sister graduated from highschool last week…*sniff* I love robin’s nests! Have you seen the hawk’s nest camera they have? Here’s the link! http://metobs.ssec.wisc.edu/aoss/cameras/hawkcam-flash.html
Oh wow! I just clicked on it and watched three baby hawks! Amazing — thanks for the link, Alexandra!
Absolutely! I hadn’t checked it in about 2 weeks, and I just went and checked it…THEY GREW UP!! π
Those hawks were sooo cute! :)D
LOL!! So cute!
how did u get ur pic to be ur eye? i thot u cant change it?
Please don’t post the screensaver yet. I spelled “Calliope” wrong. π I’ll fix it.
Sarah, how do you do that to your smiley face thingy?
You go : lol : without the spaces! π
Thanks Alexandra. π
You do this:
: lol :
Except you do it altogether. (No space between : and lol and no space between lol and :
just type in a colon and a type in a parentheses curving right it looks like this )
π
I know this is off topic, but I just finished The Voyage of Patience Goodspeed and I am starting The Education of Patience Goodspeed. THEY ARE BOTH AMAZING! I’ve never read something like this by you, but now I know you are GREAT at all types of writing-I loved these books as much as MDBC. And Once Upon A Toad. THANKS FOR A GREAT BOOK TO CURL UP WITH!!!:)
Ooo,catnip! I’m SO THRILLED that you loved Patience. She was my very first book, and is dear to my heart. π
I recentluy finished the Patience series too. They were really different from the MDBC( my favorite) but I couldn’t put them down:)
Thrilled. THRILLED to hear this! #happyfeetdance#
My science teacher incubated chicken eggs in his bathroom once and then brought them to school. (I don’t think that his wife was too thrilled to have eggs in her batheroom) π
Haha – funny!
That is such an LOL thing!!
Yay Spring (summer)!
That’s so cool! How many of u were at DI Global Finals? I was! It was awesome!
Just in case u didn’t know, DI is a really cool organization for creativity! Here are some links:

COOL!!:)
I love it! I’ve been doing it for 2 years!
Ijust got back from a trip to flagstaff and my mom found two little baby birds under our porch! I saw the mom flying back and forth all day, bringing them food.
Fun! I love watching birds do this.
That’s awesome! I wish I had robins in my back porch. By the way, no rush, but will there be a sneak peek of Wish You Were Eyre anytime soon? I am sooo eager for it to come out π
Whoops, just saw the comment above … sorry about that!
Awesome!
I am reading “My Life in Pink and Green” and just spotted your comment on the back of the cover. Cool!
Cool, I love that book too!! That’s how I discovered this series, because I liked that book so much!@
I just finished that! The whole reason I got was because I saw your comment on the back, and thought, ”Well if Ms. Fredrick recommended it, it has to be good!” AND IT WAS!!
That’s a really good book. Heather also wrote something on the back of the wedding planner’s daughter. I was sooo thrilled! π
I saw that too!
I love that book.
Hi Heather- This sort of has nothing to do with the picture, which is very funny anyway, but I just wanted to let you know that I am currently reading Betsy and the Great World, after reading all of the others in order of course! I absolutely love these books, and thank you so much for introducing me to this amazing series. I am planning to write to you very soon after I finish the entire series!
This makes me wildly happy, Jillian! Bwa ha ha, my evil plan to take over the reading world is working … another Betsy Tacy convert under my belt… π
Oh that’s so cool! I live in Boston!
You have probably answered this before…but I was wondering if Once Upon a Toad is a series?
Not yet, Elizabeth — we’ll see…
Sooo cute, you should post when you get to see the babies!!!! π
Definitely!
Hey heather! Have you heard about this really cool website called “Project Gutenberg”? You can download free eboks!!! It has a lot of really good books, and it’s totally ligit!!! I <3 it!
Yes! That’s a wonderful source for legitimately free e-books (mostly classics and others that are out of copyright). Good stuff.
Okay, so I have a weird question! π You live in OR right? Well…are you allowed to pump your own gas? Or do you always have to get the pump assistant to do it for you? π My best friend’s dad was a police officer, and he told us this!!
Haha — actually, we are not allowed to pump our own gas. Every station has attendants who are paid to do it. Not sure why this is the law, but I think it has something to do with providing jobs. I’m actually spoiled, and forget when I travel to other states — I just sit there waiting for someone to come and pump the gas for me! (and then I feel silly)
We have some wacky laws in Kansas. Like you can’t sing the abc’s on the sidewalk @ night. It is really lame. (I found that in my friend Tony’s book of crazy laws if you were wondering)
Wow that is a weird law! π
I cannot imagine how that law came to be. Where did your friend get that book, it sounds like a good book to give as a gift.
No kidding!!! When I visited my Aunt that lives a couple hours away in Lawence, we found out that you can’t scream in a huanted house there!!! Is that backwards or what?
That is nuts!! But I guess they have that law for a reason…Can’t think why.
PPSSTT! Don’t tell….but my Dad let me pump the gas once! π Until we came home and my Mom said, “AH! That’s illegal!!” Ooops…… π
I have an adorable bird’s nest right next to my porch and I can watch the mother feed the baby birds… SO cute!
Today when I walking home from school I saw a baby bird, smashed eggs, and an overturned nest. It was a robin! Me and my friends scooped it up and put it in a box with some leaves and stuff and brought it home. Then we called some wildlife people because we think the legs are broken π
