I know we’re all tired of winter, but …

April 3rd, 2014

… look what just arrived!

(By the way, “arc” stands for “advance reviewer copy,” which is an uncorrected proof of the book.)

Totally GORGEOUS, right?Β  Charles Santoso did the cover illustration, which still makes me swoon every time I see it, and Krista Vossen at Simon & Schuster did the fabulous cover design.Β  I get to work with the BEST people — geniuses, both of them!

Coming to a bookstore near you on November 4th!Β  I’ll be posting a sneak peek later this spring (and yes, there’ll be a giveaway, too), but for now, I can’t resist sharing the prologue:

“A week before the January thaw finally arrived in February, I found myself hanging like a bat from a rafter inside a church steeple, face-to-face with a bell made by Paul Revere.

If you’d have told me a month ago that I’d find myself in this position, I would have said you were crazy.

But then, a month ago my life was completely different. A month ago, my career as a middle school private eye hadn’t begun.

And by the way, it didn’t begin inside a steeple. Absolutely truly not. It began the day my report card made it home before I did.”

    Ooh… I can hardly wait!!!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

I absolutely truly (Heehee…) love prologues like that – the kind that make you want to know what happened BEFORE the already-interesting-situation the character is in. I can’t believe I even read the prologue. Now I have an even bigger itch to read the book! πŸ™‚

  2. Adriana says:

Ya ya ya ya ya!!! I can’t wait to read it! I’ve been reading a lot of dystopian books lately so a good modern book will be great!

  3. Carter says:

WOW! That is so awesome!!!! They look really awesome:):):) Are they paperback? BTW- I don’t know if this is weird, but do new books have a really good smell to you?? I just love the smell of new unread books!

By the way, the prologue makes me want to read more! And that is a true line about the report card getting home before the kid! Now, our report cards are online, and my mom and dad can look anytime. Ah! Well, actually, I don’t mind but if I had bad grades that would be scary!

Nope, the books will be hardcover — ARCs are always paperback, though. And yes, I agree, new books have a WONDERFUL smell. Even better than new cars ha ha. πŸ™‚

I seriously can’t wait!! Is it going to be a series or just one book?!?! Vu the way, I need to mention that I am so happy about the new MDBC book. I’m counting down the months!! We got dropped at quite the cliffhanger for no promise of another book! It wasn’t quite a Rick Riordan cliffhanger, but somewhat close!! I love the art on this cover, too. It’s simple and so beautiful. Happy writing!

  9. Mireya says:

Yes! I am so excited! I know I can’t wait to read and buy Absolutely Truly.

  10. Daisy says:

So how long is this book? What type of book is this? Is it a mystery ,horror ( i hope its not horror ) romance, or adventure? A couple of posts ago you mentioned one of the mdbc characters were in this book, are they a main character or are they just mentioned in the book?

    Looking foward to your response!

The book is over 300 pages long (I’m a chatty writer), and it’s a contemporary mystery. With a little adventure mixed in. The MDBC character is a minor one, but a fun one. How’s that for tantalizing? πŸ˜€

  11. Chocoholic says:

OMG! Can’t wait! Is this also a realistic fiction book? What is it about? The cover is beautiful, by the way!

    • heathervogelfrederick says:

Yes, realistic — it’s a contemporary mystery. I’ll be posting more information about it soon. And thank you, I think the cover is beautiful, too!

  13. Jane Blogger says:

I adore ARCs… I’m part of a reviewing ARCs program so i read a lot of them and very much hope to see this book on the ARC shelf soon! Can’t wait to read it!

That is so awesome, I can’t wait until the actual thing comes out!

  17. RaeAnna says:

In the Mother-Daughter Book Club series, you should have Cassidy & Tristan get engaged! That would be so cool! Or Jess & Darcy. Can’t wait until the next book comes out from the MDBC series!!

  18. Varsha says:

Wow! Prologue sounds great! I can’t wait to read it! I know it will be just great! Can’t wait for the Little Women Christmas book to come out, too! I’m a big Alcott nut (just like Mrs. Hawthorne is an Austen nut! :)) so I can’t wait! You are such a great role model to kids like me and I hope to be just as successful and loving as you are when I grow up!

  19. Orchid says:

I’m so happy! When are you going to post a chapter or two of the book? Oh and, can u give any details of book 7 of the MDBC?

    Thanks for reading!

Look for a sneak preview of ABSOLUTELY TRULY later this spring or early summer. Details of MDBC #7 still under wraps. Stay tuned! πŸ™‚

  20. Jane Blogger says:

Hah, I’m dying to know which minor MDBC character it is!!
Are there ARCS available for the Mother – Daughter Book Club Books?
    – Jane

    • heathervogelfrederick says:

ARCs are printed up by a publisher in the months leading up to a book’s publication, Jane. They’re distributed to reviewers, newspapers, magazines, librarians, etc. I usually get a handful of them for giveaways. That’s the way it works! So no, there aren’t ARCs still around (at least I don’t have any) for the previous MDBC books. But there will be for #7, a few months before its release. Hope this makes sense!

  21. Rose says:

Eek! Yay! I can’t wait…looks like another best-seller, HVF! Quick question – will there be any ARCs available (besides the giveaway) for a book blogger? *wink, wink*

  22. Tatum says:

I can’t wait to read it! you are a great writer and I am so looking forward to reading both new books! I’m so glad that its coming soon! I started the MDBC books in the beginning of middle school and now i’m in 9th. It has been so cool to get to see the series grow and to get to go the last 3 years reading all of your work and your blog! I have had so much fun! I will always be a HUGE fan! Thanks for being so awesome! When I get older I hope that I can be as good of an author as you… but for now, practice makes perfect!

  23. Hannah says:

Noooo, don’t leave me at a cliffhanger! πŸ˜€ I can’t wait to buy it so I can read the rest!

  24. orchid says:

what is ARCs? oh and what do you do for fun when you are not writing or need a break?

    HUGE fan btw,

    -Orchid <3

    • heathervogelfrederick says:

An ARC is an “advance review copy” — these are books that are sent out ahead of time to people who review them for magazines and newspapers. As for what I do for fun, well, I love to hike, swim (laps, mostly), walk the dogs, garden, bake, go to movies, travel. Oh, and READ!!! πŸ˜€

  25. cammi says:

i was watching a movie 2day called “Nims Island” its a good family movie, have you watched it? (big fan btw) it is about a girl and her dad living on a secret island and a author who has not left her home in 4months cause she is scared to, (love the mdbc book you are awesome!)and the way the movie shows her writing process i could not stop thinking does heather ever feel like this? (keep writing and do what you love best i am a big fan!) have you seen this movie or heard of it? (you are my most favorite author EVER!)

    (did i mention i was a big fan!?) :p

    • heathervogelfrederick says:

I’ve never watched Nim’s Island, but will add it to my list. Thanks for the tip! And nope, I’m never scared to leave my home, although I love being at home, if that makes sense. So glad to know you’re a fan, Daisy! πŸ™‚
