Happy book birthday and another giveaway!

What an embarrassment of riches for me this fall!  Happy book birthday to me … again!

Absolutely Truly cover 2014

It’s officially here!  ABSOLUTELY TRULY, my other new baby (the first one was A LITTLE WOMEN CHRISTMAS) goes on sale today in bookstores everywhere!

And in more good news, ABSOLUTELY TRULY is a Top Ten pick on the Winter 2014-2015 Kids’ Indie Next List!

(That makes five consecutive sentences ending in exclamation points. Can you tell I’m excited?)

What does this mean?  It means that our wonderful independent bookstores LIKE MY BOOK!  (Yet another exclamation point.) I’m absolutely truly thrilled.

Eagle Harbor Book Co., one of those wonderful independent bookstores, was the inspiration for Lovejoy’s Books, the fictional family-owned store in Pumpkin Falls that’s part of the setting for ABSOLUTELY TRULY, and plays a central role in the mystery. Click here to read about THAT fun research trip. And click here to read an excerpt from ABSOLUTELY TRULY.

I’ll be visiting Eagle Harbor Book Co. in a few weeks for a book signing. Click here for the full run-down on that event, and others.

Now, let’s celebrate….

I have two copies of ABSOLUTELY TRULY to give away. If you’d like to win one, tell us about your favorite bookstore in the comments below. Why is it your favorite? What makes it such a special place?

Winners will be chosen at random at midnight on November 19th. US and Canada only, please. Share this giveaway on your blog or Facebook or Twitter or other social media for additional entries. (If you tweet or blog or otherwise share on social media, please leave a link in the comments below so I can assign you an extra entry.)

Heading to Concord, Portland, and Seattle!

I’m hitting the road soon here, and I have a few more fall book signings to pin to my calender in addition to next Saturday, November 8th’s fun bash in Midland, Michigan. I hope those of you in Massachusetts, Oregon, and Washington might be able to come join me!

I’m VERY excited to be returning to my old hometown (not to mention hometown of the Mother-Daughter Book Club) for a book signing! I’ll be visiting the Concord Bookshop on Sunday afternoon, November 16th at 3 pm, where I’ll talk about both of my brand-new books, A LITTLE WOMEN CHRISTMAS and ABSOLUTELY TRULY.

After that, it’s on to University Bookstore in Seattle on Thanksgiving weekend — Saturday November 29th at noon — for a super panel of YA and middle-grade authors.

On Sunday, November 30th, I’ll take the ferry over to Bainbridge Island for a 3 pm signing at Eagle Harbor Book Co., one of my all-time favorite bookstores and the inspiration for Lovejoy’s Books in my new novel ABSOLUTELY TRULY!  How fun is that?!

Portland, OR

And finally, I’m back to Portland again for the Oregon Historical Society’s annual book bash, Holiday Cheer! That’s on Sunday, December 7th from noon to 4 pm.

The bookstore is just a short walk from the ferry, so hop on over and come see me!

Calling all Portland-area friends!  You’re invited to “Elevenses with the Authors” this Saturday, January 22nd, at 11 a.m. at A Children’s Place Bookstore.

I’ll be joining my good friend Susan Blackaby as we celebrate National Pie Day (well, almost — it’s actually Sunday) and Groundhog Day (a wee bit early).  We’ll both be signing copies of our new picture books, Suz’s wonderful BROWNIE GROUNDHOG AND THE FEBRUARY FOX and my BABYBERRY PIE.

Please join us afterwards as we head down the street for treats cooked up specially by the bakery wizards at Eclectic Kitchen — yum!

Calling all young Portland writers!

Want to learn how to create characters so real they walk off the page?

Head on down to Powell’s Books at Cedar Hills Crossing (Beaverton) this coming Friday afternoon, December 10th, at 4:30 p.m.  I’ll be teaching a writing workshop with my friend and fellow author April Henry aimed at aspiring authors between the ages of 10 and 18.

There’ll be a book signing afterwards, too!  Hope to see you there!

Calling all Bay Area fans!

California, here I come!

For those of you who live in the San Francisco Bay Area, I’ll be appearing at the Castro Valley Library on Tuesday, November 16th from 6:30-7:30.  This event is a writing workshop geared for 4th-8th graders (with wiggle room in the age range), and the library is asking participants to pre-register, so give them a call at 510-667-7900.  A book signing will follow.
